The Cgt pays tribute to Yasser Arafat, president of the Palestinian National Authority. For over forty years, he has been the symbol and leader of the struggle of the Palestinian people for the recognition of their right to existence and self-determination.
The Cgt salutes this resistance fighter, who was also a peace fighter.
As early as 1974, he called upon all parties to find a peaceful solution for Palestine. In 1988, he secured the adoption of a resolution recognising all UN resolutions, and called for the launch of direct negotiations with Israel. That same year, he publicly renounced terrorism. Finally, he was one of the architects of the Oslo peace process, and of all other attempts at political solutions.
Yasser Arafat dedicated his life to fighting for the recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people. Despite the death of its leader, the fight continues, and the Cgt will continue to support it and to work so that France and Europe play an active role in finding a political solution that entails recognition of the national rights of the Palestinian people, at peace with the people of Israel.
