The CGT has written to Greek authorities about the « Bateau pour Gaza » initiative

In a letter sent today, Friday 1st July, to the Greek Embassy in Paris, the CGT questions the attitude adopted by Greek authorities towards the Freedom Flotilla II, currently held in Greek ports.

“The Gaza population has lived under total blockade since 2007, in full breach of international law. An entire population is held prisoner, denied its fundamental rights, living under permanent threat of deadly forays by the Israeli army.
Unions, NGOs, associations and political parties from 25 different countries have decided to take steps to break the blockade and sent a second non-violent flotilla towards the Palestinian coastline, laden with humanitarian aid.
The CGT is party to this initiative which aims to put an end to the blockade decided by Israel, in total violation of international law.
The flotilla is currently anchored in Greek ports. It has sustained serious sabotage, quite likely to Israel’s satisfaction. Today, it wishes to set sail, but it is victim of administrative harassment from your country’s authorities, thus hampering its departure.
This situation cannot endure ! The Greek state cannot give in to Israeli and US authorities, lest it means to be an accessory to the Israeli blockade. Quite on the contrary, it should guarantee freedom of movement and navigation.
Therefore, the CGT asks you to intercede with your government, so that everything is organised :
• To ensure departure of the “Freedom Flotilla II”
• To provide protection for all those involved in this initiative
• To avoid any further risks of sabotage to the ships
Regardless of the obstacles, you may rest assured to we shall set sail toward Gaza”.

THE CGT IS CALLING TO JOIN THE GATHERING
IN FRONT OF THE GREEK EMBASSY
ON FRIDAY 1ST JULY AT 6 PM.
